How to Install APK on Android
A complete beginner's guide to installing APK files on any Android device. Enable unknown sources, download safely, and install apps from outside the Google Play Store in just a few steps.
Installing an APK file — a process known as sideloading — is straightforward once you understand the settings involved. Android's security model blocks installations from outside the Play Store by default, but this can be enabled with a quick settings change.
Step 1: Enable Installation from Unknown Sources
The exact location of this setting varies slightly by Android version and manufacturer:
Android 8.0 and later: Go to Settings > Apps > Special App Access > Install Unknown Apps. Find your browser or file manager in the list and toggle "Allow from this source" on. This grants per-app permission rather than a global setting, which is more secure.
Android 7.x and earlier: Go to Settings > Security and toggle "Unknown Sources" on. This is a single global setting that permits any app to install APKs.
Step 2: Download the APK File
Visit AndroidAPKDownload.org from your Android browser, search for the app you need, and tap the Download APK button. The file will download to your Downloads folder. You can monitor progress in your browser's download manager or your device's notification shade.
Step 3: Install the APK
Open your file manager and navigate to the Downloads folder. Tap the APK file — the standard Android package installer will launch showing the app name, developer, and permissions requested. Review the permissions, then tap Install. Installation typically completes within 10–30 seconds depending on app size.
After installation, you can disable "Unknown Sources" again if you prefer — already installed apps are not affected. The app will appear in your app drawer like any Play Store installation, and you can update it by downloading and installing newer APK versions from our site.
